Proactive Asset Tracking (PAT)

  • Updated

Overview

Proactive Asset Tracking (PAT) is an advanced system that helps keep track of their physical assets more efficiently and accurately than traditional methods. Unlike manual tracking or even Bluetooth-enabled Active Tracking, PAT uses Gateways from Hilti that constantly monitor assets tagged with Active Tracking tags. This ensures up-to-date information on asset locations without requiring manual effort.

How It Works

  • Active Tracking Tags: These are Bluetooth-enabled tags attached to assets. They provide transparency about the asset's last location but require employees to use the ON!Track app on their phones and be near the assets for updates.
  • Proactive Asset Tracking (PAT) Gateways: There are different types of Gateways that Hilti offers.
    • Stationary Gateways can be installed at job sites, warehouses and containers. They are always online, automatically tracking assets using Active Tracking tags. The locations of the assets tracked by these Gateways are shown as logical points (e.g., last seen at the jobsite, warehouse, or container). If the user has entered an address for the jobsite or container, the asset is also shown on the map at that address.
    • Vehicle Gateways can be installed in a vehicle such as a van. They are online based on network connectivity, whether the vehicle is in an open area or a basement, and at least one active tagged asset is present in the vehicle. These gateways automatically track assets with Active Tracking tags. The assets' locations tracked by these gateways are displayed on the map with actual geo-coordinates. Updates occur every 2 minutes when the vehicle is driven at speeds greater than 8 km/hour and every 15 minutes when the vehicle is parked or driven at speeds less than 8 km/hour.
    • Telematic gateways can be installed in heavy equipment. They are online based on network coverage in the area and require at least one active tagged asset near the heavy equipment. These gateways automatically track assets with Active Tracking tags. Asset locations are displayed on the map with precise geo-coordinates, updating every 2 minutes when the heavy equipment's engine is running and every 15 minutes when it's off.

Key Benefits

  • Location Updates: Back-office employees can view the location of their assets, updated every five minutes(in case of stationary gateways) or every two and 15 minutes (in case of Vehicle or Telematic gateways), directly from their office.
  • Remote Inventory Checks: Verify what assets are at a specific warehouse, jobsite, container, vehicles or heavy equipment without being physically present.
  • Alerts for Unexpected Moves: Get notified if any assets are moved unexpectedly from their designated location.
  • Gateway Status Alerts: Receive notifications if any tracking gateways go offline

Dependencies

To implement PAT, the following hardware and software are required:

  • Active Tracking tags
  • Stationary Gateways
  • Vehicle Gateways
  • Telematics Gateways
  • ON!Track Mobile app (can also function as a gateway)

With PAT, managing and tracking assets becomes more efficient, reducing the need for manual effort and ensuring that the records accurately reflect the actual status of assets on job sites and warehouses.
