This article explains which file types you can upload as attachments in ON!Track and what to do if you see an Invalid file format error.
Supported file formats
You can upload the following file types as attachments to your assets:
| File type | Extension |
|---|---|
| Word document | .docx |
| Rich Text Format | .rtf |
| OpenDocument Text | .odt |
| Excel spreadsheet | .xlsx |
| Text file | .txt |
| PNG image | .png |
| JPEG image | .jpg, .jpeg |
| Bitmap image | .bmp |
Unsupported file formats
The following older file formats are no longer supported:
- .doc (older Microsoft Word files)
- .xls (older Microsoft Excel files)
- .ppt (older Microsoft PowerPoint files)
- .gif (GIF images)
If you try to upload one of these file types, ON!Track will reject the file.
Fix the "Invalid file format" error
If you see an Invalid file format error:
- Check the file extension and confirm it is on the supported file formats list.
- If the file uses an older format, convert it to a supported format.
Convert older Microsoft Office files
| Old format | Convert to |
|---|---|
| .doc | .docx |
| .xls | .xlsx |
| .ppt | .pptx |
Convert a file
- Open the file in Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
- Select File > Save As.
- Choose the newer file format (for example, .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx).
- Select Save.
- Upload the new file to ON!Track.
Known issue for German-language accounts
If your ON!Track language is set to German, the upload window may display incorrect file format information.
You may see:
- .doc listed as an allowed file type, even though it cannot be uploaded.
- .rtf and .odt missing from the list, even though they are supported.
Note: This is only a display issue. The actual supported file formats remain the same regardless of the language setting. This issue will be fixed in a future release.
