How to use the scan and pack feature on mobile?

  • Updated

Roles: Administrator & Employee | Interface: Mobile

Please Note: This feature is only available to selected customers in Germany and Italy.

The scan and pack feature helps you quickly identify the correct tools and mark them as packed for return using your mobile phone.

You can use the camera or NFC (near‑field communication) to scan tools instead of typing serial numbers.

Follow these steps in the ON!Track mobile app:

  • Open the ON!Track Mobile App:

    • Launch the ON!Track app on your mobile device and navigate to the Fleet Return tile or section.

    • Go to the Shipments tab :

      • Tap Add return shipment to start a new shipment OR Tap an Open shipment to continue an existing one.

  • Select the Scan Option:

    • Open the shipment you want to work on.

    • Tap Identify Asset.

    • Choose how to scan the tool:

      • Camera scan – use your phone’s camera to scan the tool label.

      • NFC scan – hold the tool close to your phone’s NFC reader (if your phone supports NFC).

  • Understand the scan result

    • After you scan, the app shows a clear color screen:

    • Green screen – correct tool found

      • The tool is part of this shipment and can be returned.

      • A confirmation screen appears with details for that tool type (for example cordless tool, corded tool, battery, or charger with CDM module).

      • For each type, the screen may show specific hints or safety steps, especially for batteries.
      • Check the details, then put the tool into the box.

      • The app marks this tool as Packed.

    • Red screen – wrong tool

      • The tool is not part of this shipment or is not returnable now.

      • Do not put this tool into the box for this shipment.

      • Go back and scan the next tool.

    • This color feedback helps you avoid packing the wrong tools.

    • Note: Packing one charger + CDM combination counts as two tools in the shipment.

  • If scanning does not work:

    • Sometimes the camera or NFC scan may not recognize a tool (for example if the label is damaged). In that case, you can still pack the tool manually:

    • In the shipment, open the Assets list.

    • Use the search bar to enter the: serial number, or scancode, or Asset name.

    • Or use filters (such as location, worker, asset status) to find the right tool.

    • When you find the correct tool, set the Packed radio button for that tool.

    • The tool is now marked as packed, just like after a successful scan.

  • Review and Confirm:

    • After scanning all fleet assets, review the list to ensure all intended items are marked as packed.
    • Confirm the packing step in the app.
    • Continue until all fleet assets are packed, You can pack up to 50 tools in one shipment.

  • Proceed to Submit Shipment:

    • When you have packed all tools for this shipment, you can continue with the next step in ON!Track:

      • Tap Schedule / order pickup to arrange the return pickup.
