When can 'movement detection' be helpful?

  • Updated

Movement detection for geo tags can be beneficial in certain situations. Enable it for assets when:

  • High-value compact equipment that moves frequently between jobsites — knowing when it starts and stops moving gives you near real-time visibility without waiting for the standard 6am/6pm updates.

  • Assets you need to monitor for unauthorized movement — if something moves unexpectedly, you'll see it in the movement timestamps rather than discovering it 12 hours later at the next scheduled update.

  • Assets where understanding activity patterns matters — movement start/stop data helps you see how often and when equipment is actually being used or relocated.

When to skip it

  • Stationary or rarely-moved assets — if something sits in a warehouse for weeks, the standard twice-daily updates already tell you where it is. Movement detection would just drain battery for no benefit.

  • Assets where battery life is the priority — the standard 5+ year battery life can be significantly reduced with movement detection active, since the tag wakes up and transmits additional location data at every start and stop of movement.
