Understanding the Mechanics of AI T320 Smart Tags and the Process to Activate Them

  • Updated

Mechanics of AI T320 Smart Tags:

Hilti Smart Tag (AI T320) communicates with ON!Track gateways and mobile app to enable tracking of company assets. In addition, this tag has sensing functionality (activity per day). The Smart Tag is small, light and can be easily fixed with multiple accessories. A slot for fitting AI T320 tags is available on all Nuron Hilti tools.

Tags are delivered in Storage Mode, so they do not waste battery life while in storage. This reduces / turns off their Bluetooth beaconing. To ‘wake up’ the tags, you first need to be activated by a mobile phone.

Tag Orientation

The way you flip the tag, lengthwise or widthwise, does not affect its performance. As long as the tag is rotated a full 180°, it will register correctly.

Beacon Range

The tag’s signal range depends on its surroundings:

  • Up to 50 meters in clear line of sight.
  • Around 30 meters in enclosed spaces like warehouses or containers.
  • About 10 meters when covered by up to 3 millimeters of concrete, dust, dirt, or mud.
  • Beacon every 5-7 seconds. (BLE 5).

What Counts as Activity

Any movement lasting at least 30 seconds is considered activity.

For example, if a tag attached to a tool is moved from one desk to another and the movement lasts 30 seconds or more, it will be recorded as active for that day.

Simulating Activity

You can simulate activity for testing by shaking the tag vigorously for 30 seconds. This is useful for troubleshooting or confirming functionality.

Sleep Mode

Once activated, tags cannot be put back to sleep.

Reassigning Tags

After being removed the assigned ON!Track asset, Tags can be reassigned to a different tool in the same ON!Track account, but they cannot be moved to a different account.

Time Tracking and Time Zones

Tags track activity based on UTC time, not local time zones.
If a tag senses activity at 11:00 AM UTC, it won’t register another until the clock resets at 12:00 AM UTC.
Even if moved to a different time zone, the tag continues using the UTC setting from when it was activated.

Time Configuration and Accuracy

When activated, the tag’s internal clock sets itself to UTC based on its location. This setting cannot be changed.
For example, a tag activated in New York will retain that UTC offset even if moved to London. To avoid confusion, tags always display UTC time.
