What is Nearby scan and how does it work?

  • Updated

Nearby scan is a Bluetooth scanning feature on the ON!Track mobile app that lets users discover assets in their physical vicinity.

How it works

  1. User taps the "Nearby" tile on the ON!Track mobile app — this triggers a Bluetooth scan.

  2. The phone scans continuously for BLE signals from Active Tracking tags that are attached to nearby assets.

  3. Tags are detected and matched — The app matches these to registered assets in the ON!Track system.

  4. Location is updated — the phone captures its current geolocation and marks detected assets as "last seen" at that location with the current timestamp.

Key prerequisites

  • The tenant must have Active Tracking enabled in Company Settings on the web app

  • The user needs to grant Bluetooth and Location permissions on their device

  • Assets must have activated BLE tags linked to them
