Inventory Transfer Types: Manual, Automated, or Suggested Transfers

  • Updated

Transfers move inventory or tools from one place, owner, or status to another, helping ensure the right items are available at the right place and time. There are three main transfer types: Manual, Suggested, and Automated.

Each works differently and offers a different balance between user control and system automation.

  • Suggested Transfers are triggered when multiple gateways detect the same asset, and the system recommends a move for a user to review and approve.
  • Automated Transfers follow predefined rules and happen automatically without user approval.
  • Manual Transfers are fully user‑driven.

Understanding these differences helps teams choose the right transfer type for each situation, reduce shortages and excess stock, save time, and improve visibility across operations.

Summary

Use Manual transfers when you need full control on a case-by-case basis. Choose Suggested transfers when accuracy and human judgment matter — the system recommends a move, and you approve or reject it. Use Automated transfers for frequent, predictable, high-volume moves where speed and consistency are priorities. Together, these options help teams move tools efficiently while keeping control where it matters most.
