The ON!Track Stationary Gateway includes a built-in cellular (4G) connection for simple, plug-and-play operation out of the box without requiring local network configuration. An Ethernet port is also available for specific installation needs.
When to Use the Ethernet Port
Use the Ethernet port in the following situations:
- Improving Connection Reliability:
If the gateway is installed in a location with weak or unstable cellular coverage (e.g., basements or reinforced concrete storage areas), connect an Ethernet cable to provide a stable wired connection. - Troubleshooting Network Issues:
If the gateway experiences connectivity issues, plugging in an Ethernet cable helps determine whether the issue is related to local cellular signal strength or the gateway hardware itself.
Important Configuration Guidelines
- Automatic Network Priority: When an Ethernet cable is connected, the gateway automatically prioritizes Ethernet over the cellular network.
- Active Internet Connection Required: Ensure the connected Ethernet network has active internet access and standard DHCP network configuration. Connecting an Ethernet cable without internet access will prevent the gateway from communicating with ON!Track, even if cellular signal is present.
- Disconnect After Troubleshooting: If you use Ethernet temporarily to troubleshoot, disconnect the cable once completed so the gateway resumes standard cellular operation.
