Last month, we introduced Geo tag Movement Detection, enabling increased visibility into asset movement by identifying changes in geographic location. Since launch, we’ve closely monitored performance and customer feedback.
With this release, we’ve focused on improving the stability and reliability of the feature and in this article, you find additional guidance on how to activate it.
Recap: Geo tag movement detection
What is movement detection?
Movement Detection is a smart feature for Geo Tags that improves tracking efficiency and accuracy by sending updates when an asset starts or stops moving.
How it works
When a tracked asset starts moving, the Geo tag sends a “Movement started” update, visible in Asset Details.
When the asset stops, a “Movement stopped” update is also displayed in the asset details.
These movement updates completement the regulat 6 AM and 6 PM location updates.
How to activate it
Enable at company level (admin): Go to Administration → Company settings → Asset tracking and switch Geo Tag movement detection to ON.
Enable per asset (admin): For each asset with a Geo Tag, open Edit asset, turn on Movement detection, and Save. Movement status will appear in the Geo Tag section in Asset Details.
Important notes
There is currently no bulk activation; assets must be enabled individually.
Changes may not appear immediately. Movement status is visible after the Geo tag's next sync or when a movement event is received.
Why is this important
Updates when it matters: updates happen if there is location chance.
No new hardware required: compatible with all existing Geo tags.
Things to keep in mind
Battery life may be impacted due to additional updates.
- Best suited for frequently moving assets requiring near real‑time visibility.
Movement detection is Off by default and must be enabled
Improved Stability When Enabling Geo Tag Movement Detection
We released a fix that improves the reliability of enabling movement detection for Geo tags.
What's improved now?
After the last release, some users encountered errors when enabling movement detection during the Edit Asset flow. This issue has been resolved, and you can now enable movement detection reliably without errors.
No action is required from users. The fix is already active.
