Geo tag movement detection

What is movement detection

Movement Detection is a smart feature for Geo Tags that improves tracking efficiency and accuracy.

How it works

  • When a tracked asset starts moving, the Geo Tag sends a “Movement started” update, which appears in the asset details as shown in the example below.

  • When the asset stops, it sends a “Movement stopped” update, which is also displayed in the asset details.

  • These movement updates work alongside the regular 6 AM and 6 PM updates.

Note

While the feature was released last month, this update adds guidance on how to activate it and includes stability improvements.

How to activate it

  • Enable at company level (admin):  Go to Administration → Company settings → Asset tracking and switch Geo Tag movement detection to ON.

  • Enable per asset (admin): For each asset with a Geo Tag, open Edit asset, turn on Movement detection, and Save. Movement information will then appear in the asset’s Geo Tag section in Asset Details.

  • Important notes

    • There is currently no bulk activation; activation is done one asset at a time.

    • Changes may not show instantly, movement status becomes visible after the Geo Tag next syncs and/or a movement event is received.

Why is this important

  • More frequent updates when it matters: Instead of fixed hourly intervals, updates happen if there is movement.

  • Compatible with all existing Geo Tags: No need to buy new hardware.

Things to keep in mind

  • Battery life may be affected due to additional updates during movement.

  • Ideal for assets that move frequently and need near real-time visibility.

  • Movement detection is by default off and needs to be enabled.

Other improvements

Smart Tag Label Updates

The more filters on Assets page and one field on Asset Details are getting reworded:

  • ‘Tag Battery Low’ filter renamed to ‘Smart tag battery low'

  • ‘ON!Track smart tag’ filter renamed to ‘Smart tag

  • ‘Tag Battery Low’ battery status is now called ‘Smart tag battery low

Improved Stability When Enabling Geo Tag Movement Detection

We have released a hotfix that improves the reliability of Geo Tag movement detection, especially for tenants that use different time‑zone formats.

What was fixed?

In some cases, you may have experienced an error when enabling movement detection for assets with a Geo Tag. This error could occur during the Edit Asset flow and prevent you from turning on movement detection for those assets.

What caused this?

The issue was caused by differences in how tenant time‑zone settings were handled across various formats.

What’s improved now?

  • Time‑zone handling has been updated to work correctly with all supported formats.
  • You can now enable movement detection without errors while editing an asset.
  • The issue that caused the error has been fully resolved.

No action is required from users. The fix is already active. We’re also continuing to make improvements to strengthen error handling and help prevent similar issues in the future.
