For Van and Heavy Equipment Gateways might enter in "Offline Status" for multiple reasons. If this happens, the gateway will show in as "offline" in ON!Track.
Possible Causes and Consequences
- Connection issues
- If the gateway is missing cellular connection or GPS signal, it will appear as offline
- None of the gateway feature will be updated
- As soon as Connection is available again, it will automatically switch back online
- Wrong configuration
- If the gateway is not configured properly, it might appear as offline
- Gateway functionalities might be affected as well
- Configuration might need to be re-executed again
- No Smart Tag nearby
- If a gateway doesn’t find any tags nearby for 20 minutes, it will stop looking and switch to offline mode
Note: The same might happen also in case of a data delay of more 20 minutes - Even in offline mode, it still updates its GPS location
- As soon as a tag comes back in range, it will automatically switch back online
- If a gateway doesn’t find any tags nearby for 20 minutes, it will stop looking and switch to offline mode
- Low Vehicle/Machinery Battery
- If the vehicle/machinery battery drops below 12 volts, the gateway will go into sleep mode to save power
- In sleep mode, it will stop scanning for tags and only updates its location once every hour. That’s why it may appear offline, because it’s not actively scanning for tags
- To bring it back to regular operations, the battery will of the vehicle/machinery will need to be charged
