What should be done if the Cost Location field is blank?

  • Updated

Customer Case:
The customer notices that the Cost Location field is blank in the Asset Cost Report. This creates confusion because every asset charge should be associated with a cost location, and the customer wants to understand why the location is missing.

How does ON!Track work?
In most cases, the asset is still associated with a valid cost location. However, due to a synchronization issue, the cost location name may not be correctly displayed in the Asset Cost Report.

This can occur when the location information is not properly synchronized between ON!Track services. As a result, the report may show a blank Cost Location field even though the asset is assigned to a location.

The missing location name is typically a display or data synchronization issue rather than an indication that the asset has no location assigned.

Recommendation and workaround (optional):
To re-trigger the synchronization:

  1. Identify the asset with the blank Cost Location in the Asset Cost Report.
  2. Open the asset details and determine which location the asset is currently assigned to.
  3. Navigate to that location.
  4. Edit the location.
  5. Make a small temporary change to the location name or description (for example, add a period "." at the end of the location name).
  6. Save the location.
  7. Edit the location again, remove the temporary change, and save it once more.

This action triggers a synchronization across the ON!Track services. After a few minutes, the Cost Location should be displayed correctly in the Asset Cost Report. If the issue persists, raise a support ticket for further investigation.
